Despite eight consecutive victories, the San Jose Sharks are not getting ahead of themselves in the tight Western Conference. The closeness of the teams in the West is something the Kings in Los Angeles also are well aware.

Sharks try to extend their season-high winning streak Monday night when they host the Kings, who have achieved excellent goaltending U.S. Olympic Jonathan Quick, in his last two games.

San Jose (27-8-7) last won nine straight from November 13 to December 4, 2008. The streak has given sharks seven point lead in the Pacific Division, while (24-15-3 Los Angeles) is tied with Vancouver for seventh place in the conference.

“Take a look at the standings,” San Jose captain Rob Blake said. “You win eight in a row, but not go too far in front of anyone. So we have to keep winning.”
