NFL players earn a lot of money and that makes NFL players a prime target for business people and con artists looking to make an easy buck. Every year NFL players are scammed out of tens of millions of dollars from business people and scam artists looking to acquire investment money to start a business. The reason for this is that NFL players are athletes and we are not well educated in business. That makes us easy targets.
I am one of the NFL players who has been scammed out of hundreds of thousands of dollars. As an example, several years ago I was approached by a business man who asked me to be a partner in his new business. He said all I have to do is give him $50,000 and he will do all the work and double my money. At the time I did not know about business and the thought of easily doubling my money sounded great. So, I gave him the money. He then quickly spent all of the money I gave him and went out of business. I never heard from him again. That taught me a very valuable lesson. If I want to make money in business, I must become an expert at business.
I’ve watched many other NFL players become victims of unwise business investments. This includes business people coming to them asking for investment money to start entertainment businesses, restaurants, clothing lines, clubs, and more. In nearly every instance, the NFL player lost every cent of money he invested to help start a business.
As I have studied business and become successful at it, I have developed some rules that I live by when starting a new business.
1. There is no such thing as easy money. Starting a business takes time and it is hard work. To be successful at business you must be patient and conservative with your money. As a rule of thumb, triple what you think expenses will cost and divide by three the money you think you will make. By doing that you will have a more accurate picture of how a business will perform in its 2-3 years.
2. When getting involved in business, only get involved in a business you are very passionate about. You must love the business you are in. And, you must be very educated about the business you are getting involved in. Don’t just blindly spend money starting a new business for which you have no experience. You must learn everything you possible can about running that type of business before you invest your money. If possible, get a job working in a very similar business so you can learn all there is to know about running that type of business. See if there are books written about the type of business you want to start and study them over and over. Also, talk to other business owners who run the type of business you want to start. Ask them for tips and the best way to run that type of business. Maybe you can hire them as a consultant to help you start your business. The more knowledge you can gain before you start a business, the better chance you have of making your business successful.
3. Look at your financial situation. Do you have enough money in savings to cover all of your personal and business expenses for at least one full year? If you do not, you are asking for trouble. Nearly all businesses do NOT make a profit their first year in business. If you expect the business you start to immediately generate a lot of money, you are in for a huge disappointment. Again, you must be very conservative with your money.
4. Find a good accountant who will help you with tax planning. If you can, find an accountant who has experience doing accounting for the type of business you want to start.
5. The most important thing you can do is find a successful business mentor. I continued to be unsuccessful in business until I found a business mentor (Peter Geisheker) who helped me with every aspect of running my business. I started an online store to sell NFL merchandise (mcsportsfan.com). Peter is an expert at Internet marketing and ecommerce and he taught me all the ins and outs of successfully running an online business. He has also helped me save a lot of money as I was spending a small fortune on Internet services that I did not need. Now that I am working with Peter, I am making money instead of losing money and I am having a lot of fun in business. Again, I cannot stress how important it is for you to find an honest and successful business mentor to guide you through building and managing your business.

NFL tweaks instant replay rules
The NFL has adjusted instant replay rules to allow reviews of time remaining for the last play of each half or an overtime period in the playoffs. The adjustment will be limited to situations in which time expired before, during or after a play that ends a half or overtime. Time can be put back on the clock or removed if replay shows an error was made.

With the NFL coming to England and NFL hospitality spreading throughout the corporate world like wildfire it is high time that the English finally got their heads around the cultural anomaly that is America football. This article focuses on the early history of the NFL and a basic overview of the rules that will allow even the most avid soccer fan to enjoy NFL hospitality.
With establishment of the elitist East coast universities came the inter university competition. These matches began as soccer matches around 1869 but swiftly moved to rugby over the next seven years, mainly due to the elitist universities in England playing rugby. In 1876 there was a convention in Massachusetts where the first pioneers drew up the basic rules, which were a development from the existing laws of rugby.
In 1892 the sport has spread throughout the US and the competition was fierce meaning that players were being unofficially paid for grudge match local games. The first contracted official player came in 1895 and the first exclusively professional side played throughout the season of 1896. The NFL was well and truly under development and points were raised for a touchdown and lowered for field goals to make the sport more entertaining.
For the next two decades the sport went through technical changes such as the forward pass being legalised in 1906. The sport was growing at a rate that was difficult to sustain due to three main reasons; the players were being paid too much money, this was causing them to team-hop following the money and teams were playing athletes that were still enrolled in a college.
This continued until the US involvement in World War II began with the formation of the game more or less as we know it. The game has evolved quite a considerable amount from the rugby routes although the main objective is to get the ball over the line at the opposing end of the field then convert your goal, which is the same in rugby.
One team punts to another who then run the ball back and then a series of 5 downs begins. The ball must be passed or run in an attempt to achieve a series of first downs which means that the ball has travelled at least ten yards from the point where the previous down began. If a team is in possession of the ball and drops it then this is called a fumble and the next team to ground the ball comes away with a first down.
If a pass is thrown and missed by the receiver of the same team then it is the next down from the same position as the previous one. If all five downs are completed and the team has still not reached a first down then possession is reversed to the defensive from the point where the ball was grounded. This is why teams opt to punt on the fifth down which means that they kick the ball as far as they can to gain territorial advantage.
This is performed by the special ops team who also do field goals. There are generally also defensive and offensive teams that interchange depending on who is in possession. The game is one of the most physical in existence and serious injuries were commonplace before regulation safety equipment and rules of engagement were brought into action. It still remains extremely physical which is one of the reasons it is among the most popular contact sports in existence.

It has been several years since any changes have been made to the IRS form 990; however, 2008 marked the first year in nearly thirty significant changes have been made to the tax form. The form 990 is presented by tax-exempt organizations as a way to supply the public with financial information and to make sure these organizations are not exploiting their exempt tax status. The new form 990 requires tax-exempt organizations to report any administrator’s salaries that are in excess of $150,000 in the interest of transparency, consistency, and full disclosure. One organization that many are familiar with, the National Football League, feels they should not have to report this information to the public because it is unimportant.
For the past several years the only salary the NFL has submitted on the 990 has been Commissioner Roger Goodells which has been in the area of $10 million annually. With the new rule in tact the NFL would have to report approximately an additional 25 salaries. The NFL, a trade association, has gone as far as contacting the American Society of Association Executives in an attempt to establish a bill that would excuse the NFL and other similar organizations from this requirement.
Many people wonder why the National Football League feels they should be exempt from this IRS form 990 requirement. The NFL makes a case that instead of being a charity that gets donations from the public, they are financed by the teams of the league; therefore, making them a trade association. The NFL does reap huge benefits from its label as a tax-exempt organization because they can market bonds at a lower rate to teams for making stadium renovations. The members of each team are allowed to ask for salary information of NFL executives at any time they please; however, the NFL believes that is where it should stop. Some people that have been following the situation feel the National Football League may have some concern about employees being upset if they learn what their fellow employees are earning in comparison to them. Some also believe the NFL may have some worry that people that have never seen these league officer salaries may become disappointed with the league.
The reasons the Internal Revenue Service have made this change is so the have the opportunity to look for excessive salaries and possibly insider dealing. With the National Football League having to disclose executive salaries, it would keep everyone honest. If somehow Congress would waive the NFL from the form 990 requirement, there would be many other tax-exempt groups seeking the same exemption from the rules the NFL has gained. Ultimately this could defeat the sole purpose the IRS seeks in transparency, consistency, and full disclosure.
With the NFL having the desire to continue its tax-exempt status it currently has but the lack of desire to apply to the new form 990, the National Football League has some decisions to be made. They could comply with the new rules and release the additional executive’s salaries to the public. Like many other organizations have done, including professional sports such as Major League Baseball, the NFL could switch to a for-profit organization and not have to worry about disclosures; however, losing there exempt status. This is a situation many should keep their eye on because if Congress would yield to the NFL’s request things could get rowdy for any tax-exempt organization seeking the same benefits of the NFL. I suggest watching to see what final decision is made.

What would prompt a young, fit professional football player to use steroids, especially with the new, stricter NFL rules? The NFL released a newly revised steroid use rule booklet earlier this year, which means that they’re even more on top of catching these users than ever before. They may perform random drug testing, when the players least expect. Unusual behavior or sudden, noticeable increases in performance or strength may trigger suspicion at any time, resulting in drug testing for one of all of the players on the team. There are cleansing drinks that can be bought from the health food stores that can totally remove all traces of drugs from a player’s system. But there is no way that a concoction like this could help a steroid-using NFL player at all times, because random drug tests means that he will never know when to expect one. He may think that he’ll never get caught, or that he’s playing the best he has in his career. What the NFL player who decides to use steroids should know, though, is that he can and will be caught, sooner or later. He may get away with it for a while-even a long while, but with rules becoming stricter and stricter, he will eventually be caught, and dealt with accordingly.
Many NFL players are so desperate to enhance their performance that they are willing to risk getting caught and suffering the repercussions. They think that steroids are so great, like a magic drug, when in fact they are the total opposite. Sure, they can increase a player’s energy level, stamina and muscle definition, but what they don’t realize, though, is that they’re risking more than just being suspended from the NFL. They are also risking their health. Steroids are extremely dangerous drugs, and are nothing to play around with. They can cause heart disease, blood clots, strokes, liver damage and even cancer. Maybe some NFL players feel that since they are so young and healthy that steroids couldn’t possibly have such serious effects on their bodies. This is a misconception, and they need to realize that they are not invincible. It doesn’t matter how young or healthy a player may be; steroids will damage his body. They can even alter the production of testosterone in their bodies, resulting in decreased sex drive, low sperm count, enlarged prostate and even impotence. Surely no man, especially popular NFL players, would want to suffer from any of these horrible side effects. If they want to be the best professional football player there is, then they need to workout regularly and practice as often as they can. Remember: Practice makes perfect. So whatever goal a professional football player sets for himself, he can, and will eventually reach it, and even exceed them-without the illegal usage of hazardous steroids
